Lance was the National Advisor for NZ Police Crisis Negotiation Teams having completed the NZ Police Negotiation Course in 1999, qualified on the FBI Negotiators Course in 2007, and attended a Counter Terrorist Negotiators Course in 2008.
Lance specialised in suicide intervention, on predicting violent behaviour, and on managing high-risk incidents as a negotiation instructor.
He trained and operated with the elite tactical units of Police, Corrections, NZ Defence Force, and the FBI. Lance attended over 900 critical incidents in his 13 years as a negotiator.
Lance gained an in-depth understanding of human behaviour during tense situations and was described by the NZ Police National Tactical Commander as “the most qualified and highly skilled negotiator within NZ Police”.
Lance has presented to varied audiences on advanced communication skills, negotiation strategies, crisis intervention techniques, and on strengthening personal resilience.
He holds a Master of Arts Degree, majoring in Terrorism Safety and Security which examined human dynamics.
He has a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies, a Diploma in Policing (NZ) and a Graduate Certificate in Applied Management.
Lance formed his own company, WARN International, a consultancy and coaching business specialising on enhanced communication techniques and personal resilience support to reduce workplace stress.
