Dr Brendan O’Mahony

BrendanDr Brendan O'Mahony holds an MSc in Forensic and Legal Psychology from the University of Leicester and a Professional Doctorate in Criminal Justice from the University of Portsmouth.

Brendan is a Registered Forensic Psychologist in independent practice based in East Anglia, UK and he is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society.

He trained in a medium secure hospital where offenders with intellectual disabilities and other complex needs were detained under the Mental Health Act.

He delivered interventions to violent and sexual offenders. Brendan regularly provides expert witness testimony to the criminal courts and to the parole board.

Prior to training as a psychologist Brendan served as a police officer and trainer for ten years in the Metropolitan Police Service, London and he is passionate about enabling police interviewers to Achieve Best Evidence by increasing their knowledge about intellectual disabilities and how to formulate questions for this vulnerable group of interviewees.

Brendan is a Registered Intermediary at the Ministry of Justice, London and he regularly facilitates communication between vulnerable witnesses and police interviewers.

Additionally, he is experienced at facilitating communication at court during evidence-in-chief and cross-examination between lawyers and vulnerable witnesses and defendants.
