Tony Johnston BA(hons), PGCE, MCMI is a retired Detective Chief Inspector with 30 years police experience including 21 years in managerial ranks. An operational officer who has also held strategic, and training roles.
On retiring he was a member of the senior leadership team of the GMP training school. Responsible for managing the GMP crime training faculty.
A member of the senior leadership team of the GMP Professional Standards Branch, he is dependable and can be trusted to consistently exhibit maximum integrity and standards.
A trained Senior Investigating Officer (SIO). Has conducted investigations into complaints against the police and police officer professional conduct matters.
Has conducted investigations on behalf of the Independent Police Complaint Commission (IPCC) for example, deaths in police custody and police pursuit fatal road traffic incidents.
A trained (tier 3) suspect interviewer. He has helped develop National Police Improvement Agency (NPIA) investigative strategies by representing the NW regional crime training managers at the national forum.
He is a trainer and he has used his operational & training experience to both design and deliver training programmes; for example to convey professional standards codes of conduct rules to supervisory officers and to counter criminal activities like Domestic Abuse Stalking and Harassment (DASH).
He has worked in the GMP assessment centre designing and administering promotion examinations for all ranks from new recruits up to and including Chief Superintendent level.
He is a member of the Chartered management Institute A confident public speaker, trainer and presenter, he encourages, inspires and motivates others.
